Roswell, Georgia, nestled along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, is a city steeped in Southern charm and historical significance. Founded in the 1830s by Roswell King, the city began as a small mill town centered around the Roswell Manufacturing Company, which used the powerful flow of Vickery Creek to drive its cotton mills. This early industrial hub attracted workers, families, and entrepreneurs, laying the foundation for a thriving community. During the Civil War, Roswell played a notable role. In 1864, Union forces occupied the city and destroyed the mills, disrupting its booming textile industry. Many of the mill workers mostly women and children were arrested.

Today, Roswell honors its past with beautifully preserved historic sites, including Bulloch Hall, the childhood home of President Theodore Roosevelt’s mother; Barrington Hall; and Smith Plantation. These antebellum homes offer a window into 19th-century life in the South.
